"We are blessed to be board members and long-time volunteers with Respecting Our Elders a fresh rescue food program nonprofit, founded in 2005 (the first one in Marin!) by Ruth Schwartz and Curt Kinkead. By partnering with local stores and Farmers Market vendors, R.O.E. collects and distributes free food directly to needy seniors and others in Marin County. Please consider supporting this ultra-worthy organization, their work impacts and uplifts our food-insecure neighbors every day." Donald Rubbo

"We are grateful for the opportunity
to give back to our community, through donating turkeys this past Thanksgiving to families in need, and our Rubbo Christmas Toy Drive 2015 for Foster Children.
We are delighted and honored that Alma Flor Ada (renowned award-winning children’s author) donated 50 copies each of her books, ‘The Rooster Who Went to His Uncle’s Wedding,’ and ‘The Malachite Palace’ (hardcover), and ‘Pengey Penguin’ and his good friend, children’s book author John Burns, donated 20 personally signed new copies of 'The Many Adventures of Pengey Penguin' to our Rubbo Christmas Toy Drive 2015." November 27, 2015:
We are grateful to those who bought our Rubbo Salt of the Earth.
We were moved to make sure children in our community had a Thanksgiving holiday dinner, and with your support, we were able to help families in need eat well this Thanksgiving.
We researched which Marin organizations would best fulfill our desire to reach as many families as possible, and we chose Ritter Center, in San Rafael. They have a Thanksgiving food program for housed families (they also provide services for homeless citizens), and have been collecting food to distribute to families today and tomorrow. Our donation yesterday of eleven turkeys took them over their number on their list of families, and Sean, the donation coordinator, was very happy. He said every year a few families show up late Wednesday afternoons who hadn't put their names on the list, and he'll be able to provide for them. Thank you for buying Rubbo Salt of the Earth this past month, you helped us make a difference for our children!

"I guess people aren't used to seeing a lot of turkeys in shopping carts! While we were checking out at Sprouts, San Rafael, many shoppers were eager to talk with us, and a little girl asked why we were buying so many turkeys. I explained that we were donating these because we wanted to make sure all children in Marin would have a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving, and she looked up at me with very wide eyes. Her mother smiled at me.
The store manager came over, and with tears in his eyes, told us he spends every Thanksgiving serving food to the homeless at a shelter in San Jose. He thanked us for buying the turkeys for donating to our community. He and Donald shook hands and shared a moment of mutual appreciation and acknowledgement." Donald Rubbo
